Crash kills Bellefonte man, injures Milesburg woman
A Bellefonte man was killed yesterday when he lost control of
his vehicle on U.S. Route 220, Philipsburg state police said.
Jeffrey Scott Reed, 23, was killed when he lost control of his
1985 Ford Thunderbird on a snow-covered patch of roadway while
traveling northbound on U.S. Route 220 at approximately 4:45 p.m.,
police said.
Reed's vehicle spun into the path of a 1989 Pontiac Grand Am driven
by Elsie K. Beck, 72, of Milesburg, who was traveling in the southbound
lane of U.S. Route 220.
Beck's vehicle struck the right side of Reed's vehicle, forcing
it into a ditch where it flipped onto its right side, police said.
Beck was life-flighted to Hershey Medical Center where she is
listed in critical condition, a hospital spokesperson said last
night.
The location of the accident on U.S. Route 220 is approximately
one mile south of state Route 144 in Boggs Township, Centre County.
Assisting at the scene were Port Matilda and Milesburg Fire Companies
and Emergency Medical Units and Rockview and Milesburg state police,
police said.
Both vehicles were severely damaged, police said, and the road
was closed for two hours.
Beck was wearing a seatbelt, but it is not known if Reed was,
police said.
