Faculty divided on salary Faculty Senator Dennis Roberts' proposal, discussed at the University Faculty Senate meeting last week, recommended minimum salary standards for University faculty -- leaving many members divided on the issue. IFC to oppose borough plan The Interfraternity Council hopes its presence at the State College Borough Council meeting tonight will show the borough that fraternities are taking steps to become better neighbors. Students prefer dollars to warmth With the harsh winter months still coming, some students will be retreating to warm, comfortable apartments, while others will still be stuck in the cold. Dancers promote African freedom Purple, red and yellow flashed as rhythmical bodies danced to a tribal beat. The audience clapped and smiled while the dancers frolicked in the warmth of the people cheering them on. Students find remote parking lot susceptible to break-ins, theft The new lot -- located on University Drive near the Bryce Jordan Center -- has been become a prime target for retail theft and vandalism. Rental permit plan revised The State College Borough Council will hold a formal meeting tonight to hear the testimony of area citizens concerning the newly revised Rental Permit Revocation Proposal. Police log ----------------------------SPORTS---------------------------- Trackwomen continue logging impressive mileage at invites It became more evident last weekend that the Penn State women's track and field team's dominance in the mile was not a fluke. Gaudio remains cool when under pressure IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Matt Gaudio missed the pressure. He missed having the ball in the low post during the waning minutes of a tight game. He missed knowing he had a direct impact on whether his team wins or loses. Grapplers leave Iowa unfulfilled The Penn State wrestling team knew that it wasn't going to be easy to go into the toughest wrestling state in the country without 126-pound superstar Sanshiro Abe. Wildcats tame gymwomen Penn State women's gymnastics coach Steve Shephard tried to get them to come to Penn State. But the gymnasts decided to go elsewhere. On Friday, they helped that team tame the Lady Lions. Icers peak against Mountaineers The Icers were faced with what could have been their toughest homestand of the season this weekend. They played two grueling games against West Virginia -- a possible opponent in the first round of nationals in March. Goalie becomes hero despite loss Although West Virginia goaltender Kevin Gray didn't come out of his weekend series against the Icers with a win, his Herculean performance between the pipes against a potent Penn State offense was a victory in itself. Spikers serve up home cooking It was a weekend of kills, digs and burials. Laxer alumni impressed with ability of new squad The Penn State men's lacrosse annual alumni game could almost have been called the battle of the egos as the men's lacrosse team of past years and the current team went at it in hopes of proving which team was the best. Lions carve niche in OT victory IOWA CITY, Iowa -- It was the type of game championship teams win. Water polo team not just another club horsin' around Mention the sport of water polo around Penn State and you'll probably be greeted with little more than a blank stare. That is, unless you mention it to a member of the Penn State water polo club, in which there are over 40 members. In the home of the ever-present snowmen and the frigid winter wind, the club's members continue to play this traditional warm weather sport throughout the year. Home meet finale provides fiery finish In its last home meet of the season this weekend, nothing came easy for the Penn State men's swim team. Coach says freshman Otto to start for spikers Intelligent. Competitive. Intense. A winner. Netwomen defeated by Michigan at home Even in defeat, some teams find a positive aspect of its match to use for the rest of the season. In the case of the Penn State women's tennis team, the loss could have some positive reinforcement for the rest of the Big Ten season. Despite lost points from divers' absence, swimwomen soar Giving up 32 points in the absence of their divers wasn't nearly enough to stop their surge. Purdue misses chances, 76-60 The ball flew in the air after Angie Potthoff lost control of it while attempting a baseline jumper. Kim Calhoun, preparing herself for a rebound, snagged the ball from mid-air and laid it in with Purdue's Lisa Furlin draped on her. Calhoun converted the free throw for the three-point play, catapulting the No. 13 Lady Lion basketball team to a 76-60 victory over No. 22 Purdue last night at the Bryce Jordan Center.
