Rockview among jails with most walk-aways One of the worst state prisons for walk-away inmates is right in State College's backyard -- literally. Located about five miles from downtown, the State Correctional Institute at Rockview competes daily with the persistent temptation of freedom that faces inmates. Police log ----------------------------SPORTS---------------------------- Penn State Icers do successful Hen-hunting Mother nature would not allow a hockey game to be played on Friday night, and Delaware should have hoped for another cancellation on Saturday afternoon as the Icers walloped the Blue Hens, 10-2, before a packed house at the ice pavilion. Penn State Icers do successful Hen-hunting There's a new kid in town and he wears No. 25. He's capable of throwing his body around and stirring up any opponents in his path. He came to Penn State from Colby College because he plays the game with the same intensity the Icers look for. Sophomore defenseman Paul Shuttleworth made his debut in Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon when the Icers gave Delaware a 10-2 thrashing before a sellout crowd at the ice pavilion. Lady Cagers No. 5 with win and loss Just two days. That's all the Lady Lions could afford in order to recover from their first Big Ten loss of the season. Overtime victory leaves Lions 13-0 Winning on the road in the Big Ten is not easy -- no matter the opponent. And Saturday, Penn State learned just how difficult winning away from home in the conference can be. Men's gymnasts take Open The Penn State men's gymnastics team traveled to West Point, N.Y., hoping to provide a good showing at its first meet of the new year. They left the Hudson River by marching away with a victory in the team competition. Gymwomen near expectations Things didn't go quite as well as women's gymnastics coach Steve Shephard had originally hoped for this weekend. He wanted three wins -- he got two. Crowd of parents pushes swimmers It turned out to be an emotional Parents' Weekend at the McCoy Natatorium. The Lady Lion swimming and diving team rallied to tie No. 15 Minnesota Saturday night and came back to blow Virginia out of the water yesterday. Expectations remain high for Big Tens With a 70-point margin of victory over the Virginia Cavaliers, it was easy for individual performances by members of the men's swimming and diving team to get lost in the 154-84 final score. Alumni game starts Spikers 1996 season The Penn State men's volleyball team reflected on some old times on Saturday, but now look to make some more history starting next Saturday. Swimmen take revenge on UVA He swore it wasn't a case of running up the score. Junior Mac Fraser insisted the Lions weren't out for revenge against the Virginia Cavaliers (4-7) -- the same Cavaliers who had demolished them this time last year, winning by almost 40 points. Weekend meets give swimwomen win, tie Great fan support, surprising dives, a great comeback and even some "booty-shaking" all helped the Lady Lion swimming and diving team to an emotional weekend and start to the second half of the season.
