Summer Music at Penn's Woods series offers a varied lineup of works by the classical masters
Every summer for the last decade, the sounds of violins, clarinets and bassoons take the stage at Eisenhower Auditorium to entertain and enthrall listeners in a cool and calm atmosphere. This season, students will have the chance to hear musicians playing Gershwin, Schubert and Tchaikovsky, just to name a few, as the Music at Penns Woods program opens its 10th season.
College appoints another director
Penn State College of Arts and Architecture Center for the Performing Arts has a new director, Joe M. Jefcoat. As former vice president of the Spirit Square Center for the Arts, Charlotte, N.C., Jefcoat had many responsibilities. Jefcoat was in charge of programming three theaters, seven galleries and nine studios.
Movie ratings multi-layered
Oliver Stone had to cut 150 shots from Natural Born Killers for it to get an R rating rather than an NC-17 rating. Some scenes that didn't survive the cuts include shots of Tommy Lee Jones' head on a spike and a view shown through a bullet hole in Robert Downey Jr.'s hand. The graphic nature of the subject matter was the reason for the cuts required by the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board.
