Coffeehouses perk with life, fill to the brim
Coffee is more than just a mere beverage -- it is a way of life for some.

Community members gather to recognize victim's rights
Thirty-five people stood in front of the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte yesterday and listened to people talk about violent crime victims' rights.

Nine seek council
A tapestry in the window and an overstuffed couch on the porch are part of life for University students. But to the State College borough, these things are a sign of money lost.

Four run for three justice positions
Three district justice positions are up for election in the Centre County area on May 16.

Commissioner candidates concerned with improvements
While the six candidates for Centre County's three commissioner seats agree on the community's greatest assets, their ideas on the county's biggest problems differ greatly.

Teams struggling for wins in American League West
The American League West is compared to the other divisons in Major League Baseball as the Bubba Gump Shrimp Corporation is compared to Red Lobster. The division is so bad that the Seattle Mariners finished last season 14 games under .500 -- and were only two games out of first place. The team that did finish first, the Texas Rangers, is the only team to finish the season in first place with a losing record.

White Sox the team to beat in AL Central division
Realignment may anger baseball traditionalists. But American League Central clubs are not complaining. The new playoff format gives the Norris Division a chance to send two teams to the post season. Considering the talent packed in this division, the chance is good.

Battling for top position in AL East
With four teams that could conceivably contend for playoff spots, the American League East appears to be the toughest division in baseball. The Yankees and Orioles appear to be the class of the division, with the Blue Jays and Red Sox in the next tier. Only the Tigers appear to be outclassed.

Softball slump broken
Heading into last weekend's four-game series against Purdue, the Lady Lion softball team was mired in a nine-game losing streak. In addition, Penn State's usually potent offense had been significantly quieted in recent games against Big Ten powers Iowa and Michigan.

Lion Brady jets to pros
It was 1992 and Kyle Brady was frustrated. Frustrated with the football season and his role as the Lions' third-team tight end. Frustrated with everything about Penn State.

Sister Souljah urges changes for black community
Sticking her leg out from behind the podium in a suggestive manner and pulling her shirt down from her shoulders revealing a glimpse of skin, Sister Souljah sang a few lines from Salt n' Pepa's "None of Your Business."
