You're invited
Don't reject an invitation to choose the right party

Looking for something to do today, the National Day of Student Activism? Here's your invitation to one of the least attended events the University has to offer -- but it shouldn't be. Today you have the chance to participate in the Undergraduate Student Government elections and, ultimately, to choose whether or not campaign promises will be delivered. Last year, a mere 4,953 students voted in the elections -- more than 1,500 fewer student voters than voted in the 1992 election. This year, help the numbers better reflect the magnitude of the student body. At the center of the party are this year's presidential and vice presidential candidates: Josh Bokee and Kerith Strano; and Corey O'Brien and Kara Annechini.

Who is invited?

All students who want to see the attention of USG leaders directed toward their concerns and important University issues. If you feel especially slighted by past high-hope promises and the HUB-club attitude of USG, vote for the ticket you believe will deliver on its goals and actually cause change.

If you worry about state budget cuts, tuition increases, health and computer services or campus safety, check out each platform and decide which pair of candidates has the most feasible plans to address those pressing issues.

What should you bring?

Use your student I.D. card for something other than chicken cosmos and an embarrassing back-up at the bars. Bring the knowledge of the candidates' platforms gained during the debates. Even during this last day of their entertaining schmoozing, you should be ready to pick the most prepared and competent candidates for the job of representing your needs as a student.

R.S.V.P. today at any student polling place.

The Daily Collegian Board of Opinion interviewed the two tickets running for president and vice president. The board endorsed Josh Bokee and Kerith Strano in Monday's editorial.
