Letter to the Editor
History lesson
I am writing this letter to comment on Pastor Ray Goss' comment on paganism in which he compared Pagans to "the natives of Africa." According to him, "They are out there in the deep jungles -- they don't know any better." Well, Pastor Goss, why don't you take out your history books for a minute. On second thought why don't we take out my history book for a little lesson on these so-called natives in the deep jungle. I must say that you are not alone in your beliefs that Africans run through the jungle. I bet you also believe that lions (who live in the desert) are king of the jungle. Another of those myths brought about by misunderstanding. First of all, these natives that you speak of ran some of the greatest empires in the world. If your history book does not speak of them, then take a look at mine. It speaks of great African kings and queens that did not believe in gods, but worshiped the land. They used what they needed and gave back to the land. Some ideals that we should consider today. You may have heard of the Egyptian empire or maybe even the Zulu empire to name a few. My history book talks about a government that was eventually modeled by some European countries and subsequently, this contry. All of this during a time when Europe was in what is known as the Dark Ages. My history books talk about great men that passed own traditions and ideals that are still being used today. You have degraded a country that has prospered for thousands of years. Why? As a pastor, I would assume that you are open-minded, but I guess that just may not be the case. As a Christian, I have found many problems that might make us seem like a lesser regligion to others. I am sure that you have heard about some of the problems with priests today, but I won't discuss any of these. The point of this letter is basically to make Pastor Goss aware that there are many lifestyles in the world that we live in. Maybe you and others like yourself should learn more about people before you criticize them, because you never know who is listening.
