Trashing Penn State' spring thing
What kind of siege ravaged the HUB lawn? What a shame to have such an exhilarating day TRASHED! As we converged for class today, we discovered we all had similar reactions to our environment. We were enjoying the scenery, feeling the warmth of the sun, clinging to the remnants of that vacation feeling. We have such a beautiful campus. This afternoon, we watched squirrels scampering, birds chirping, people dancing, playing volleyball, throwing frisbees, passing footballs, eating ice cream, drinking PEPSI -- all doing their SPRING THING -- only to have it TRASHED by "we the people..." Our eyes were assaulted by the battlefield of ill-defined debris! Paper cups, papers, cans, bottles and napkins -- most of which are recyclable, were unnecessarily left to litter the HUB lawn. Enjoy it, but don't trash it! Could you imagine what a visitor to OUR campus would think? Kudos to the three folks we saw, wading through the sea of litter, cleaning the debris left by you -- hundreds of reckless sun worshippers -- who created this mess. Shouldn't you be the people cleaning it up? Wouldn't it be interesting if no one cleaned it up? If you don't pick it up, who will? Should the University raise tuition dollars, or establish a littering fine to pay for cleanup? Where is your sense of pride, or do you have one? Possibly you didn't care, or care enough. We can't slap your hands, but we can appeal to your integrity. Is this the heritage you would pass on to your children or future students? We implore you, next time, take your garbage with you. Be responsible citizens of our university community, as well as the planet.
