A Harrisburg man escaped yesterday from a prison work detail at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview and is still at large.
Derrick Williams was serving a 25 month to five year sentence for possession with intent to deliver drugs from Dauphin County when he escaped, according to a news release.
Williams allegedly walked away from a prison work detail at the sawmill, located near state Route 150 in Benner Township. He was discovered missing at 11:40 a.m. when the prisoners were preparing for lunch, Rockview State Trooper T. L. Miller said.
According to a news release, Williams stands 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 155 pounds, has short, black hair and brown eyes. He has a small build, a gold front tooth and speaks with a strong Jamaican accent.
The news release also stated that Williams was wearing prison brown clothing and work boots, but some of his clothes were found discarded on prison property.
Police are currently taking measures to track Williams down.
The state police were notified and Rockview employees are covering the prison grounds, said Frank Dougherty, public information officer for Rockview.
The crime Williams committed was not considered dangerous and he escaped very close to his minimum release date, Dougherty said, adding that Williams is not considered dangerous.
