On March 4 and 5, the men's and women's fencing teams traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals. The top two Penn State qualifiers from each of the five weapons would advance to the NCAA championships in South Bend, Ind.
In men's foil, Wes Waldron finished first and Andy Gearhart finished second, qualifying both for NCAAs. In men's sabre, the Lions Serge Lilov took first and Jason Levin took third. In men's epee Greg Gregor finished fourth and Kimo Quaintance finished fifth.
On the women's side in epee, Polo Wagner finished fourth and Cecilia Youngblood finished 14th making them both eligible for the NCAAs. In women's foil Olga Kalinovskaya and Sibyl Goldstein qualified, finishing first and fourth respectively.
