A fire in an apartment in the Barcroft Building, 522 E. College Ave. caused the entire building to be evacuated.
A fire alarm alerted residents and Alpha Fire Co. to the incident at about 7:20 p.m., said Chief Steve Triebold of the Alpha Fire Company.
The first unit arrived on the scene at about 7:30 p.m., as the last of the residents were evacuating, Triebold said.
The fire apparently started on a stove burner, destroying the kitchen area of a fifth-floor apartment, said Assistant Chief Tom Hand. There was some smoke damage to the apartment, Hand said, adding that firefighters searched the fifth and sixth floors, and determined that no other apartments were damaged.
Alpha Ambulance Service and University Ambulance Service also arrived on the scene, Triebold said.
