The men's and women's indoor track teams both finished in tenth place out of ten teams at the Big Ten Championships this weekend.
The men's team scored eight points in their meet at Illinois. Wisconsin won the meet with 101 points. Penn State's Dave Kriz took fourth place in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Steve Pina finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet, 10 inches.
Three Lions reached the finals on Sunday, with Leif Steiner finishing eighth in the 800 meters (1:58.21) and Jake Bartholomy taking sixth in the 3,000 meters (8:20.30). Matt Hutzelmann finished sixth and Tom McGlynn finished eighth in the mile (4:17.99 and 4:38.00, respectively).
The Lady Lions did not fare much better in Michigan, scoring 17 points to winner Illinois' 132.
The best individual performance recorded was a fourth place by senior Kris Kelly in the 5,000 meters (17:10.44).
Joining Kelly in the top 12 for the 5,000-meter run were seniors Kelli Hunt in seventh place, Kim Kelly in eighth and Kim Harrity in ninth (17:32.93, 17:34.48 and 17:36.50, respectively).
Freshmen Tracy Pombo and Erica Bosler reached the finals in the 600-meter run in their first Big Ten Championships, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior Holly Jones turned in a seventh-place performance in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 7 1/4 inches. Sophomore shot putter Kim Hicks took sixth place in her event with a throw of 45 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
