Two individuals were arrested Saturday after trying to run an off-duty police officer off of Linden Hall Road, the State College Police Department said.
Jeremy Stover of Centre Hall and William Paul Brooks of Rebersburg were arrested after they chased Officer Joseph Zaffuto along Brush Valley Road, state Route 45 and Linden Hall Road, police said. Zaffuto contacted other police officers on his cellular phone who arrived as Zaffuto was forced off the road and Stover and Brooks were trying to coerce him into fighting them, police said.
The incident occurred because Zaffuto reported that friends of Brooks and Stover were "raising hell" in the parking lot of a restaurant, police said, adding that the police came and arrested the individuals involved. This caused Brooks and Stover to become angered enough to chase Zaffuto and try to run him off the road.
Stover was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, intimidating a witness, driving under the influence and reckless driving, police said.
Brooks was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, intimidating a witness, permitting violation of driving under the influence and conspiracy, police said.
The two were arraigned before District Justice Daniel Hoffman and are being held in Centre County Prison in lieu of $5,000.
