The women's swimming and diving team finds itself in good position after one day of competition at the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis.
The Lady Lions are currently in third place with 119 points. They trail favorite Michigan (236) and Minnesota (182), but are not too far from the bottom of the pack.
"It's the first time we've ever been in third place after the first day," Coach Bob Krimmel said, "but it's extremely close from third place to sixth place."
Pacing the Lady Lions was their 200 free relay team with a third place finish and a new Penn State record. The team of Deni Rudy, Sarah Duttera, Karen Van Tassel and Carmen Kondra added their names to the record books with a time of 1 minute, 32.89 seconds.
The squad also swam well in the 50 free, as Rudy placed fourth (23.46) and Kondra finished seventh (23.67).
