Year of planning ends for 'Thon

For the past year, student committees and organizations have been preparing for one event. Students and advisers have had to arrange for everything from food to music to logos to mats to rulebooks to hotel rooms and much more. All of their hard work will culminate this weekend during the 1995 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

But not everything can be taken care of ahead of time. So the marathon committee members have a very busy day ahead of them.

But Physical Plant Committee Chairman Tim Jones does not seem worried.

"Last year we were done a little bit early, and we're on basically the same schedule," he said.

Yesterday, his committee made several last minute pick-ups, hung posters in White Building and transported goods from the HUB basement to White Building. The committee cannot begin to set up until 3 p.m. today because classes will be held in White Building until then.

Committee members met this morning to wrap up last-minute details. Overall Chairwoman Stacy Bingler said anything that is not planned already will not happen, but she added that everything is under control.

"(The committees) were already ready for this week. On Sunday we sat down and planned every day of the week," she said.

But committee members are not the only people trying to prepare for the next few days.

Mike Lucadamo (freshman-exercise and sport science), a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, 508 Locust Lane, will dance this weekend, and he is doing what he can to get ready.

"I have tests that I'm trying to study for, but I'm trying to get some sleep," he said. "I'm getting kind of nervous about it, but I think it'll be fun. It's for a good cause."

Bingler is also feeling some emotions about this weekend. She said she is proud of all of the work she and the committees have done.

"It's an overwhelming feeling," she said. "I'm very excited, but at the same time, I'm a little sad. It comes and goes so fast."

At 5 p.m. tonight there will be a final dancer meeting in the HUB Ballroom to review rules, answer questions and distribute shirts. Then, at 7 p.m. the dancing begins.
