Letter to the Editor
Penn State proud

Far be it for yet another Penn State student to complain, but here goes ... The only difference is that I am complaining about some of the students. For a change a letter to The Daily Collegian will not gripe about the school itself.

I am simply tired of hearing sniffling children crying, "I pay to go here..." or, to quote Chris Romito (Feb. 14 Collegian), "We paid for that class, and pay for their salary ... we are paying an arm and a leg for tuition." Yeah. Yeah. However, in the very same article he practically admits that he skips class -- Boo hoo. Sorry, Chris, no sympathy here. Get over it. Do you really think that the fact that you (or more probable your parents) pay tuition to go here that this gives you the right to dictate what the rules are? Wake up. I think you have this mixed up with high school. It is there that your parents pay school tax and have the final say (though they may not realize it). Must I remind you that you asked permission to attend this university (remember that application your parents paid for?) So, my advice would be to suck it up and make the best of your oh-so-unfair situation.

This whole attitude of Penn State-owes-me-something carries over to the residence halls. Many individuals seem to buy into the notion that, because they are rendered penniless to be here, they are justified in breaking any rule or regulation that they see fit.

My suggestion is that perhaps those applications that "you" paid for need to be a little more defining. Perhaps it should include questions like: "Do you ever feel that you have the right to A.) bite the hand that feeds you? B.) break things that don't belong to you? C.) decide when and where you will attend classes? D.) all of the above?"

I would like to end this by saying that I am Penn State proud. I don blue and white to signify that pride, not the price I paid to wear it.
