Rape ed revisions
With an entire resource center devoted to the promotion of women's issues and geared toward the education of males and females concerning the complexities and atrocities of rape, why doesn't our administration seem to understand how important rape education is and subsequently help students get the necessary education they need? As students from the business school look to fill requirements and meet the recommended credit quotas per subject area, students outside the health field are consistently looking to "get around" the classic health-education requirement. With an array of three-hour, one-day-a-week courses to choose from, why is Penn State still enforcing a ridiculous health education requirement which absorbs a tremendous amount of student time and that students truly dislike. The importance of the health-education curriculum is being lost to a disinterested audience who are more worried about their four-credit accounting course than their one-credit health. If Harvard Business School is in your future, your attention span and interest level concerning the intricacy of the male and female reproductive cycle is minimal and therefore we need a change. We need a change that will get students involved and therefore I unveil the Penn State Pechter Doctrine. The Pechter Doctrine: All non-health related majors needing to fulfill a health-education requirement can attend a five-day, five-hour rape and sex education class. Upon completion of the course, each student will receive one full credit which can be applied toward their health-education requirement. Courses will be offered year-round so that every student has an opportunity to fit this condensed course into their schedules. With the implementation of this plan, we can accomplish many of the goals that the Women's Resource Center and the Penn State faculty have been valiantly attempting to instill on all of us. In our traditional plan, students only got rape education in certain health-education classes. These few students specifically taking sex education, with an emphasis on rape education, were the only students who possessed the sporadic knowledge necessary to all of us. By allowing students who need health credit to obtain credit while doing this intensified program that all students so desperately need, Penn State will help educate the masses by offering a token of good will in exchange for precious student time. In return for attending the one-week seminar, the Penn State administration will give you, the students, credit, and therefore pass more students through the rape education classroom. Rape education has always had mixed emotions tied to it. Males typically resented the fact that they need to be educated on the subject and females have consistently exhausted the opposite end of the spectrum, and in doing so further alienated the male populace. With a new plan, Penn State will be promoting a new vision toward helping the busy student get the education he or she needs to make the proper lifestyle choices that impact the rest of the Penn State and State College community. Considering all the problems at Penn State, rape education made easy and accessible to more students, because it offers incentive to attend, will allow Penn State to position students in the right direction. In the end, the understanding that students must have about the subject matter and the responsibility that the University has to take to properly educate them, regardless of what motivating measures they have offer, are all positive signs for our future. The issue of rape is very important to both genders, for rape is an act of violence and must be viewed as a problem to be tackled collectively. Implementing the Pechter Doctrine will give Penn State the credit leverage it needs to get more students into the rape education classroom, ensuring that they will hear and digest the necessary information that appears to by-pass the disinterested busy student.
