Despite the fire that destroyed his towing business, John Tennis said he will continue with his auto towing service.
When firefighters arrived on the scene at John Tennis Towing, 117 E. Cherry Lane, the whole structure was engulfed by flames, Alpha Fire Company Chief Steve Triebold said.
No injuries were reported in the fire that engaged 55 firefighters, Triebold said.
Tennis said he talked to his insurance company and the fire investigator came to see the place the day after the fire, but Tennis is unsure exactly when an estimate of the damages will be available.
While Tennis does not yet have a complete list of the owners of the vehicles, he said he has contacted most of them since the fire.
But the fire has not stopped John Tennis Towing from operating, Tennis said.
"We're not burned-out completely," he said, adding that the operation is running with only two of the original seven trucks it had.
The company lost five trucks in the fire.
Some customers' vehicles were damaged by the blaze, Tennis said, but it is still unclear how severe the damages are. He said his insurance company is looking at the cars to determine damages.
It is not clear yet who will be paying for the damages to customers' vehicles.
No cause for the fire has been discovered and an investigation is still proceeding, Triebold said.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at about 10:30 p.m., five minutes after they received the alarm, Triebold said.
Alpha Ambulance Company, Alpha Fire Company and Boalsburg Fire Company arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire while, Pleasant Gap Fire Company and Undine Fire Company brought units to the State College area to handle any additional calls for the Alpha Fire Company, Triebold said.
