Lawyers defending undergratuates

An unfair curve, changes in grading policies mid-way through the semester, or an undeserved grade are just some of the problems students face each semester. Most of the time, students feel too remote to deal with them by themselves and do not know where to turn. Instead of doing something about it, they complain to themselves or friends and let the problem go unanswered.

Many students do not realize that there is an organization on campus dedicated to working for the needs and concerns of undergraduate students at Penn State. It is Undergraduate Student Goverment Academic Assembly's Complaints and Concerns Committee. This committee of dedicated individuals was established to give advice to students on where to go to get help on their complaints. But, it also acts on the students' behalf. In a way, the committee acts as a group of lawyers defending undergraduate students.

Suppose a student feels that his or her teaching assistant is not teaching properly. That student can stop by the USG Academic Assembly office and file a complaint, and there is a good chance that the issue will be solved.

The Academic Complaints and Concerns Committee has a duty to defend students with valid complaints or concerns to the highest possible authority. It is also the duty of this committee to try to prevent such a complaint or concern from occurring again in the future.

Remember, problems cannot be solved if they are ignored. The Academic Complaints and Concerns Committee is here to help all undergraduate students. Stop by 203A HUB for help.

chairman, Academic Complaints and Concern Committee, USG Academic Assembly
