For the first time since 1988, the Penn State University Veterans Organization will have women in leadership positions.

At its annual elections last night, PSUVO elected two women officers -- Julie Carter as treasurer and Billie Cartwright as membership chairwoman.

"I hope to bring some diversity to the male-oriented events," said Carter, who was in the Marine Corps and is also the treasurer of the Penn State Rifle Team.

Other officers elected, which all hold year-long terms, include: Pat Scanlan, president; Steve Self, legislative vice president; and Dave Turner, social chair.

PSUVO has been active at the University for 27 years.
