Democracy rebirth

As a Latin American, I am sad to see two Latin American nations in military conflict with each other. The present confrontation between Ecuador and Peru should be a real concern for all countries in our American continent.

In the past few years, Latin America has experienced a rebirth of democracy in many countries. Dictatorships in nations like Chile and Nicaragua have stepped out to leave room for new democracies, and I feel proud to say that now democracy prevails in Latin America. This is a great accomplishment, but more importantly, it is a challenge for our countries to collaborate with each other toward economical development, social peace, and political stability.

Thus, a lot of work lies ahead for Latin American citizens to ensure peace in our region. We need to build everyday, with great care, a society where collaboration and fraternity lead our way to development. A war between two of our nations will only lead us astray from this goal. Therefore, I hope other American countries will be more prompt and successful in helping to resolve the conflict with no more human bloodshed. After all, we are all brothers in the Americas.
