Letter to the Editor
Anti-Semitic speaker

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Forum Building, Conrad Muhammad will present a speech sponsored by Black Cau- cus. The speech will be paid for by tuition fees along with many of our parents' tax dollars. The problem with this is that many, perhaps all, of Mr. Muhammad's speeches focus on racism and hatred to incite the emotions of the black community. His speeches focus on the evils of whites and are usually filled with anti-Semitic sentiment. His, along with others such as Louis Farrakan's, main focus is to exploit the emotions of black people and create a general feeling of hatred between races.

Bill Asbury, vice president for student services, claims this is a freedom of speech issue. Freedom of speech does not apply here, however, as Mr. Muhammad will be generously compensated for his speech. If Mr. Mohammad was speaking free of charge, as Gary, "The Willard Preacher" does, then freedom of speech would apply. But when University funds are used, the University has every right and responsibility to monitor the types of events that are held.

If you would like to express your dissatisfaction with these circumstances, please attend the speech on Feb. 4 and/or contact Bill Asbury, vice president of student services at 865-0909.
