PHC holds elections to select new officers

Collegian Staff Writer

Last night in the HUB Reading Room, the Panhellenic Council held its speeches and elections where they decided the four elected positions. Although two positions, president and secretary/treasurer, only had one candidate each, the positions of executive vice president and administrative vice president involved some competition.

The position of PHC president will be filled by Kati Wiggins who is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, 101 Hibbs. Wiggins (junior-human development and family studies) ran unopposed but needed to win by a two-thirds vote. Her main goal during her term will be communication. Wiggins said she would like to make PHC more informal and give the delegates more chances to voice their opinions.

Also running unopposed, for secretary/treasurer, was Tracy Greca. Greca (sophomore-international business and accounting) is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, 10 Wolf.

But the other positions were not so easy to decide.

Susannah Spellman, from Sigma Kappa sorority, 2 Stone, won the position for executive vice president. Spellman (sophomore-communications) is confident about the future of the PHC and hopes to do well in her position.

"I see so much potential within Panhellenic. I want to give something back to Panhellenic by serving as executive vice president," she said.

The two candidates Spellman defeated in the race were Michelle Thaxton (sophomore-speech communication) from Alpha Xi Delta sorority, 13 Wolf, and Andrea Patterson (junior-administration of justice) from Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, 3 Stone.

The position of administrative vice president was won by Kathryn Jakuc (junior-cell and molecular biology) of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, 108 Cooper. Her main goal, she said, will be to bring together the Greek and independent communities. Jakuc defeated Nancy Cho (junior-marketing), a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, 2 Hastings Hall.

The PHC will hold its induction ceremony Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Pollock Gold Room.
