Letter to the Editor
Not a witch hunt

Tuesday night, the Undergraduate Student Government Senate voted to investigate USG President Mike King and Associate Justice James O'Rourke, in conjunction with possible oversights in the matter surrounding the leave of absence of Chief Justice Corey O'Brien. We feel that the leave of absence and the subsequent raising of Justice O'Rourke to the position of acting chief justice may be in conflict with the Supreme Court Procedures Act and the USG constitution. The investigation is by no means meant to be a witch hunt nor a personal attack on Mr. King or Mr. O'Rourke. We sincerely hope that they will be cleared of all charges, however, we feel the situation warrants investigation as is provided for in the Senate bylaws, which are an extension of the USG constitution.

Currently, this investigation is not directed at any other members of the executive or judicial branches, including Lori Pennay and especially Corey O'Brien. The purpose of the investigation is to determine the facts and then subsequently decide on a course of action. Once again, this should not be taken as a personal or political attack on those members being investigated.
