It will be a chance for revenge. It will be the women's indoor track team's only home meet of the season.
That combination has lit a fire under the Lady Lions' Nikes.
Penn State will try to avenge last weekend's loss to Georgetown when they meet the Hoyas at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Greenberg Indoor Sports Complex. The contest will give Penn State the opportunity to battle Georgetown one-on-one after losing to the Hoyas at the Cornell Invitational by three points.
"It hasn't affected the content of practices," Lady Lion Assistant Coach Carmen Mann said. "It has made the girls want it a little more."
However, the scoring for tomorrow's dual meet will be different without other teams impacting the point distribution.
Mann said she didn't think that would have much effect, since generally the teams are evenly matched. At Cornell, the Hoyas were stronger in sprints, while the Lady Lions outmatched them in throwing and jumping events. Both teams were highly competitive in the distance events.
Penn State won the distance medley relay last weekend, but Georgetown answered with a meet-clinching win in the mile relay. Individually, the Hoyas scored firsts in the 5,000- and 1,000-meter races, while the Lady Lions took the top three places in the mile.
Mile winner Erin St. John defeated the closest Georgetown competitor in her event by 15 seconds.
"Their top milers weren't there," she said. "I hope they come this weekend so we can run faster."
St. John also said distance would be well-matched with more runners present this weekend, since each team has beaten the other in cross country.
But some key runners will be missing from Penn State's squad. Senior Kim Kelly is nursing an overuse injury in her leg, so her status will be questionable for tomorrow's meet. But Mann said she had a good practice Wednesday. Freshman Kristie Moser's status is also questionable because of ankle problems.
Mann said despite the injuries and the loss last Saturday, team morale is high. "They seem pretty pumped for the weekend," she said.
