Funds from District Justice Clifford Yorks' office were discovered missing while Yorks was away on vacation, the Ferguson Township Police Department said.
The money was stolen from a collection of court fines paid in cash between Dec. 19 and Jan. 10, police said.
The police said they suspect that a recently fired Centre County Court House employee is responsible for the theft.
Police are continuing the investigation and will conclude how much was stolen when they examine the records.
The police are asking that anyone who paid a fine during the above period call District Yorks office at 231-1425.
