In the summer of 1955, John R. Thomas' father drove the family from Columbus, Ohio to the Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico.

In a time when residents are lobbying local legislation concerning residential noise levels, unkept residences and housing violations, there are organizations already existing to combat these problems.

Technology may not always make life easier, and many students learned that lesson after hiking to Shields Building during the past couple of days, only to camp out in line for sometimes more than an hour.

A common concern expressed by students and parents considering Greek life during college is academics. Many worry that the social atmosphere of a fraternity or a sorority will detract from student studies.

SPORTS

Forgive the Lady Lion volleyball team members if they have not yet changed their calendars. If it were up to them, they would probably like their 1994 season to continue -- for at least one more match.

The Sports Pavilion at Minnesota clock read nothing but zeroes Sunday, the score locked at 66. Minnesota had upset then-No. 7 Penn State two days earlier, and Cara Pearson was at the foul line with a chance to deliver another improbable Golden Gopher win, this time over then-No. 19 Purdue.

The national championship Nike hats that members of the Nittany Lion football team wore at the conclusion of the Rose Bowl will probably never be seen again. But that has not discouraged Penn State fans from cleaning out local stores carrying merchandise celebrating the past season.

Men's Gymnastics Coach Randy Jepson is breathing a sigh of relief. He and his team were just granted a repreive for the next two years.

After being pounded in games one and two by a combined score of 30-12, the players wearing the flame-covered jerseys of Laval University could have easily prepared for an early exit from the exhibition match against Penn State yesterday.

For the second straight evening, it appeared as though the "Battle for North America" would be nothing more than a chance for the Nittany Lions to show the home crowd they were ready for continental domination.
