Old Main's priorites

Penn State's main reason for existing should be to provide an affordable, well-rounded, quality education for those seeking an undergraduate degree from it. Anyone here with their eyes open knows this is not the case. There are a minority of administrators, professors, and staff members who should be applauded because they also believe this and work toward it, but their efforts fail to overcome those of people with other agendas.

I submit as a minute piece of evidence my inability, as an undergraduate student, to add an introductory photography class for the second semester in a row. Photography is a basic and highly popular form of art, yet Penn State has seen fit to open only about half of the sections they need. I won't go into the complicated details of how they go about filling these sections, but when I showed up at the class Jan. 10 hoping to add it, there were twice as many people as they had room for! So for most of us and many others who tried getting into different sections, Penn State has let us down in our attempt to learn a basic form of art.

This is certainly not the only example of what I believe is Penn State's incorrect priorities, but it is one of the most basic and probably one of the most often experienced. It's a shame most of the people who work in Old Main enter through the rear of the building, otherwise they may be reminded daily of what their purpose for being here is by what's written on the front.
