The University will lay off more than 60 faculty and staff members from its Commonwealth Educational System during the next two years as part of a plan to reduce its budget by $6 million.

Wearing a white T-shirt, cut-off blue jeans and a dark pair of shades, Debbie Morrison looks more like she belongs in the city than on the range, but she wouldn't mind stopping in at Chili's Grill and Bar for some Southwestern cuisine.

Students who depend on the Town Loop, Campus Loop and other Centre Area Transportation Authority services to get around State College will not have to pay more for single rides.

In the light of a continuing trend of low funds from the state, a University administrator is urging departments to spend with caution.

SPORTS

Success, more than any other word, may best define Penn State's athletic program. From the trophy racks in Rec Hall to the Beaver Stadium billboard proudly proclaiming a pair of football national championships, the winning tradition of Nittany and Lady Lions alike is readily apparent.

It was truly a makeshift soccer field. A road signified one sideline; the opposite sideline was a railroad embankment. The playing surface was the foundation of what used to be an antiquated building.
