A University department director was ordered to pay some restitution yesterday for personal jobs he ordered employees to do, but most of the projects were found legitimate by University auditors. Almost two months after hazing allegations were reported at Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the fraternity's national chapter plans to investigate the claims. Michele Howley rubbed her left hand against her chin and tossed her curly red hair as she decided if the State College Borough Council had the right to prohibit students from living in certain residential neighborhoods. Students may soon be prohibited from living in certain State College homes if a group of neighborhood associations gets its way -- but not without a fight from student leaders.

Women have worked diligently to eradicate the image of the helpless, obedient and objectified female, and the enduring institutions of beauty pageants and contests seem like a weight anchoring the movement to the past. They are a little less dramatic than the stereotypical groupie --they usually don't scream and pull their hair out at the sight of their particular heroes. Lately it seems more often than not that children are more capable of programming video cassette recorders than adults, and that the sophistication of kids' toys lags just a step behind the ever-stretching limits of technology.
