As State College continued to broil, temperatures climbed to 87 degrees yesterday, and Marci Taylor actually went outside to cool down.

When Lindsay Anderson visited Central Pennsylvania in September, she was awed by University Park. Everything seemed so right. She was convinced that Penn State was where she would go to school -- and play volleyball, too.

OAKMONT -- The biggest surprise of the first round of the U.S. Open has to be the success of golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. Coming into the tournament, the Golden Bear himself had lingering doubts about his game.

In many countries around the world, day-to-day activities stop so that fans can follow the action of World Cup soccer. While State College may not be caught up in the virtual pandemonium often surrounding this tournament, local athletic retailers can still cash in on the World Cup's journey to the U.S. this summer.

Former Penn State soccer player Gavin Reid can easily recall watching World Cup games on television while growing up in Northern Ireland.

If you think it's hot and sultry outside, take a peek into the Pavilion Theatre and check out the steamy sequences of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

From sculptures and sketches to jewelry and pigs, three local agencies are showcasing mentally retarded, mentally handicapped and physically handicapped residents' art in an exhibit this weekend.

As long as there are lazy people, the get-rich-quick scheme will never die, but the music industry has really begun to beat a dead horse with star-studded movie soundtracks.
