State College Borough officials are excited about recent events that may shatter the myth that downtown's business district offers nothing but bargain slices of pepperoni pizza and "coed naked" T-shirts.

After tapping residents for their opinions on campus safety, the Office of Residence Life extended card access hours in an attempt to increase student security.

The University may create a new College of Life Sciences based on the recommendation of a study group's report at the University's Board of Trustees meeting May 13.

The University is in no hurry to begin its national search for a new leader following University President Joab Thomas' decision to retire next August.

The third day of testimony in the trial of a 36-year-old Ohio truck driver accused of strangling a runaway teen-ager from Maine continued yesterday with the district attorney attempting to link their whereabouts through fuel receipts, phone records and a falsified driver's log.

SPORTS

Each spring a swarm of athletes converges on the Penn State campus for the Pennsylvania Special Olympics. East Halls is transformed into an Olympic village, buzzing with activities.

Two of Penn State's prized athletes decided they won't be wearing Nittany Lion uniforms next year.

For the first time in 24 years the NCAA men's volleyball championship trophy is not residing in California -- it now has a home in Happy Valley.

He lived through both world wars and witnessed the transformation of China from a land of dynasties and warlords to a land of communism. But the turbulence of his life hasn't dulled his bright, enthusiastic intelligence, and time has been kind to him, allowing only a few shallow wrinkles to intrude on an open, expressive face.

The University's theatre arts department has suffered a double shot of high-ranking resignations during the past few weeks.
