NEWS

Sporting his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tennis shoes and bright red soccer shirt, 7-year-old Bradley King lovingly tugged at his father's leg in the State College Municipal Building Friday afternoon.

The conspicuously empty HUB Lawn may have caused some Earth Day enthusiasts to go home yesterday, thinking the event was cancelled, but the more dedicated followed the faint sounds of music into the HUB Ballroom.

Good news for graduating seniors -- a survey done last month by the College Placement Council Inc. found that the job market for graduating seniors is beginning to show signs of improvement.

Trudging to classes during the winter months through 2 feet of snow to hand in a homework assignment is practically a Penn State tradition. But with the University working to give students general computer literacy, they may not even have to leave home.

It was the biggest compliment Coach Julie Williams could ask for. Playing without All-American defender Jill Pearsall, the women's lacrosse team had to rethink its strategy.

HERSHEY -- The sweetest place on Earth turned sour -- at least for the Penn State men's lacrosse team. Needing a win to bolster its chances for a berth in the NCAA Tournament, the Lions (5-4) came up short, losing to No. 5 North Carolina 16-8 Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.

The Lady Lions pulled off a split in their last two home tennis matches against Ohio State and Indiana last weekend, bringing the season record to 7-5. Bittersweet emotions filled the air inside the Penn State Tennis Club yesterday, as the seniors faced the realization that never again would they set foot inside the club as part of the Penn State tennis team.

Pitcher Leigh Bakun had two goals for the 1994 softball season -- to beat Ohio State on the road and Michigan at home. After a masterful performance in a 2-1 victory over the Wolverines Friday, she is halfway there.

It was the same old story for the men's volleyball team -- start out slowly, gain some momentum, stumble, almost lose, and then pick up the quality of play just in time to come away with the win.

Despite a day of weather that included high winds and clouds, the skies were clear when Tanya Donelly and her fellow cohorts in Belly took the stage Saturday night.
