Letter to the Editor
Fair election
Let's talk about Mike King and Lori Pennay. It's official: They won the election fair and square. Whether you voted for them or not, let's give them a chance and see what they can do. Tell them what you're thinking and what you want them to do. After all, how can you complain that the Undergraduate Student Government has done nothing for you when you haven't told USG what you want? Now let's talk about the elections commissioners. How about leaving them alone? They had a huge job to do. They did it well. Questioning these people's integrity is crazy. Quite honestly, you would have a difficult time finding a more trustworthy group on this campus. Scott Payne, Jim Stephens, Jitu Modi, Andrew Coonradt and Chuck Otto should be commended for a job well done -- not harassed. Finally, let's talk about Mike Abrams. The Daily Collegian editor in chief demanded to know the election results prior to the official announcement. When he was denied entry to the office of the Association of Residence Hall Students where the commissioners were, he threatened to get on stage at the official announcement of the results and claim the results invalid. Fortunately, the elections commissioners were not persuaded by Mike's temper tantrum. He argued that traditionally someone from the Collegian is allowed in the room where the ballots are being counted. Traditionally, the Collegian reporter has also managed to release the results before the official announcement. The elections code does not require someone from the media to be in the room where the ballots are being counted.
