About life

This week Penn State Students for Life is sponsoring Human Life Awareness Week. As part of our mission to educate the University community on pro-life issues, we have put together a series of events. This is an opportunity for all pro-lifers to reaffirm their convictions, a chance to educate further about the issues, and those on the fence can find out about why it is vital to get involved.

Events begin tonight with a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. following our weekly meeting. Tomorrow, we will have a table outside Willard, to collect signatures on two petitions -- opposing fetal tissue research and the abortion provisions and health care rationing in the new health care plan.

Throughout the week, speakers will be talking about a variety of topics. Attorney Scott Somerville will speak about the links between abortion and an increased risk of breast cancer. This is vital information for all women considering abortion and those who rightly advocate informed decisions. Choice is not choice unless all the pros and cons are available. And Dr. Patricia Mazzarella, a bioethics professor at Georgetown University, will present a speech titled, "Should Active Euthanasia Be Legalized?"

We encourage you to get involved and look forward to meeting you this week.

Katherine G. Watt
Penn State Students for Life president
