This letter is on reference to Chris McCarthy's article on the Penn State water polo team from March 22. It was well written, and accurately highlighted the men's skills and prowess in winning their home tournament.

But Mr. McCarthy failed to mention one integral part of the tournament -- the women's water polo team. We also played in the tourney; winning handily over Villanova and losing two tough matches to Harvard. Unfortunately for Mr.McCarthy, he cannot blame his error on lack of knowledge; he had been given the women's team roster and their schedule of tournaments for the season and even printed in his article on March 18 the times when the women's team was playing for the weekend tournament.

While the men have all of their conference matches in the fall, the spring is considered the women's season. We have two more tournaments in Maryland and Villanova and then a championship meet in Princeton in late April. With the talent, determination and depth on this year's team, we should perform well. We are as dedicated and driven as the men's team.

This letter is not to chastise Mr. McCarthy on his negligence. This is just to let him know that we want to be recognized and credited for our accomplishments. It is possible that Mr. McCarthy feels that women's water polo is not as exciting as the men's and that it just doesn't deserve his time or attention. Maybe he'll think twice about it next time -- considering that the women's matches at the tournament had the largest, rowdiest and most enthusiastic crowds, while the men's fans were paltry and subdued, at best.
