A University student was ordered by District Justice Daniel Hoffman on Wednesday to stand trial on charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
James S. Burrell II of 224 S. Burrowes St., a recently elected Undergraduate Student Government senator, allegedly attempted to fight a police officer and other people in the area outside of the Gingerbread Man, 130 Hiester St., after he was asked to leave the establishment, according to court records.
Also before Hoffman, a University student was ordered to stand trial on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.
While a police officer was at Jason Mellow's apartment at 1007 N. Atherton St. for another matter, the officer saw a bong on the floor that later tested positive for marijuana residue.
On a later day at his apartment, Mellow allegedly sold 0.5 ounces of marijuana to an undercover police officer. The next day, he allegedly sold the officer 26.4 grams of marijuana, according to court files.
In another case before Hoffman, a University student was bound over for trial on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Marc Sherridan of 615 Mifflin allegedly kicked University Police Services Cadet Justin Kessinger in the head, causing a fracture of the bone below his left eye, according to court records. Kessinger stopped Sherridan and another man for allegedly possessing alcohol.
According to court files, Sherridan was allegedly with former University student Justin Naddeo, who waived his right to a preliminary hearing a few weeks ago. Sherridan said he intends to plead not guilty and requested a jury trial, according to court records.
Also before Hoffman, a Philipsburg woman was bound over for trial on charges of endangering the welfare of children.
According to court records, Maryjo Kennedy allegedly left her child in her truck while she went into a bar to drink alcohol.
In another case before Hoffman, a University student was bound over for trial on charges of simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
While Chad Murawczyk of 122 N. Gill St. was being served a warrant for allegedly hitting a University man in the face causing 29 stitches above his right eye, the officer found a small wooden box commonly used to store marijuana, according to court records.
The officer testified he picked up the box and detected a scent of marijuana.
