Men and women overflowed the chairs and sat in the aisles last night to hear the star of Deep Throat describe the physical, mental and sexual abuses that lurk behind the smiles in pornography.

Two months after the Campaign for the Library raised more than $10 million, the University is considering launching its next major campaign to increase academic scholarship funds.

Susan Mani wanted to minor in theatre arts, but she didn't have time. She wanted to join more organizations, but couldn't do that either. Mani loaded up on credits in order to earn a four-year degree in three years.

Undergraduate Student Government Senate President Mike King and Lori Pennay won the USG presidential and vice presidential race yesterday with 2,079 of the 4,881 votes.

It is rare that any event should stand out against the general bustle of the thousands of students on campus, but the small armies of campaign workers distributing fliers made it hard to ignore this year's Undergraduate Student Government elections.

Anniversaries are usually remembered with flowers and perhaps a small celebration. But this week --15 years after a reactor core at Three Mile Island melted, causing panic and a fear of nuclear power that lasted for years --the only plans for commemoration are from anti-nuclear groups.

From the moment he began to describe the weather forecasting center that his grandfather built for him when he was 5, Ken Reeves' everlasting love of weather was apparent. The eyes of the Accu-Weather senior meteorologist shined like the sun when he thought of the days he spent in the makeshift station on a roof peak in Abington, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Following more than a month of debate about requests to the administration made by the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Alliance, members have written a letter to University President Joab Thomas once again requesting an office, staff position and more education on gay issues.

Newspapers, magazines and television newscasts seem to think it's important. The U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives voted to conduct hearings because they think there is something there. Special prosecutor Robert B. Fiske Jr. has subpoenaed many documents and at least 10 top Clinton administration officials -- making the Whitewater scandal a national issue.

When Susan Brist was a freshman at the Allentown Campus, she spent her entire Spring Semester passing out buttons, fliers and pamphlets in support of presidential candidate Bill Clinton in an effort to elect a president who could get things done.

Local drug enforcement agents seized $1.5 million in cocaine Monday night as part of an ongoing effort to curb what officials think is an Ohio-based drug operation that passes through Centre County.

The Lehigh women's lacrosse team may be changing its mascot after yesterday's clash with Penn State. Like lambs led to the slaughter, the Engineers (3-2) lost steam as the No. 6 Lady Lions (3-3) showed no mercy in their 18-3 thrashing.

The 7,264 fans that packed the Rec Hall stands for the women's basketball team's game with Iowa on Feb. 6 sent a powerful message. And not just to the Lady Hawkeyes.

After being bothered by high winds a week and a half ago at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate in South Carolina, the men's golf team was itching to get back into the swing of things -- and it looks like it has.

The California Angels are likely the youngest club in baseball, but the Halos are hoping raw talent can overcome inexperience. The California youth movement is led by leftfielder Tim Salmon (.283, 31 home runs, 95 RBIs), the 1993 AL Rookie of the Year. Salmon's supporting squad includes centerfielder Chad Curtis, second baseman Damion Easley and Eduardo Perez, Tony's son and the heir-apparent at first.

Led by Cy Young winner Jack McDowell the Chicago White Sox have the best starting rotation in the American League. In his first year as a full-time closer, Roberto Hernandez developed into one of the best, saving 38 games. Offensively, MVP Frank Thomas and Robin Ventura form one of the best 1-2 punches in the league.

The Baltimore Orioles spent more than $45 million on free agents in their most active winter to date. Headed by hard-hitting first baseman Rafael Palmeiro (37 home runs, 105 RBIs with Texas), the O's have added some much-needed power to their lineup.

For the men's volleyball team, power lies in the middle. The middle blocking, that is.

Since it entered the Big Ten, the softball team has been kind of like a fraternity pledge. It has been shown the ropes by the older, more established schools for its first two seasons in the conference. But soon, it will be the Lady Lions' turn to do some hazing of their own.
