Obtainable goals

It was no surprise to me that at the Undergraduate Student Government presidential debate Thursday three tickets spent the majority of their time attacking the King/Pennay platform.

It takes a lot of time and hard work to develop a sound platform. I would like to ask the other three tickets where their platform statements are. I went to the Pattee Reserve Reading Room and read the King/Pennay platform statement.

It is obvious they have put much effort addressing real problems and offering real solutions. The other tickets should take heed and supply the student body with a detailed a platform such as Mike King and Lori Pennay.

I was disheartened when Erich told us at the debate that formulating ideas and laying groundwork to platform goals is not important to him. It is the people who are really important, he said.

When someone presents an idea, researches it and begins the process of implementation, I trust them more with that idea than someone who simply sucks it off them like a parasite.

Since the King/Pennay platform is the only one readily available to the student body, I must assume Erich refers to it when speaking of implementing other people's good ideas. April told us Erich is not a politician, and I assume she uses the word in all of its negative connotations. I believe copying others' ideas and making lofty promises that cannot be financed qualifies Erich as a politician in every negative sense of the word. Until another ticket supplies me with a platform that is attainable, my vote will be cast for Mike King and Lori Pennay.
