A student's dream -- throwing down the plastic for anything from school supplies to a case of beer to that absolutely gorgeous Gap sweater that goes perfectly with those hunter green jeans.

The University may have to begin looking for a new face in public relations.

Last month Heather Lynch was like many Penn State students -- she hadn't been a babysitter since she was in high school. Now, four years after graduation, she has re-entered the babysitting circuit and said it is the perfect employment opportunity for college students.

A 21-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 22-year-old University student early Friday morning in downtown State College.

State College Borough Council members and paid staffers work together to guide the borough in the right direction, but they probably couldn't do it without the help of the authorities, boards and commissions.

The candidates for Undergraduate Student Government president and vice president focused on the financial feasibility of their platforms in the third and last debate of the campaign season yesterday.

Students for Real Democracy grabbed the attention of students and Undergraduate Student Government presidential and vice presidential candidates yesterday when they attempted to take over the USG election debate.

For the first time in about a month, the mens volleyball team faced a challenging opponent. Friday night's 3-0 victory over Ohio State was the Lions' first tough test since their Feb. 26, 3-1 win at George Mason.

Righthander Dean Kerns pitched a one-hitter yesterday, shutting out Purdue, 9-0, in the final contest of the four-game weekend at Ward Lambert Field in West Lafayette, Ind.

The performance of the Penn State men's tennis team this season resembles that of a reliable car --it may start slowly, but once it gets going, nothing is going to stand in its way.

Chris Devine took the bronze-medal position for the 1-meter diving event at this weekend's NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, making him the first male diver from Penn State to ever reach the finals on any board.

Someday, Beth Wymer will bore her grandchildren with accounts of this storybook night. For now, she is content with humility.

It might have been hard to notice Penn State freshman Tom Ellefson at the Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championship Saturday. With two Ohio State freshmen placing one and two in the all-around, it might have been hard for Ellefson to get a word in edge-wise, so to speak.

On Friday, Lady Lion Gymnastics Coach Steve Shephard might have thought a Big Ten Championship meet record would win his team the title Saturday.

With just over 10 minutes remaining against No. 1 Virginia on Saturday, the hopes of the women's lacrosse team looked bleak. The Lady Lions trailed the defending national champions 9-4 when Penn State Coach Julie Williams called a timeout.

AUSTIN, Texas -- It was a pretty harmless question, really. Nothing a coach shouldn't have been prepared for when her team's season had just come to an end in the NCAA Tournament.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Maybe if the situation was a little different, it could have been called an upset. But after defeating the second-and third-seeded teams in the Midwest, No. 6 Alabama continued to play giant-killer by ousting the No. 1 Lady Lions from the NCAA women's basketball tournament in the regional finals Saturday, 96-82.

Laura Jackson was thrilled when she heard that women's soccer at Penn State would be elevated from a club sport to an intercollegiate sport. But there was still some doubt in her mind.

Heading into this weekend's men's gymnastics Big Ten Championships, Ohio State seemed invincible. A No. 2 national ranking, an unblemished record and the nation's top all-arounder strode into Happy Valley wearing Buckeye Scarlet and Gray.

The music by the Penn State Concert Band seemed to set a circus mood. With seven teams competing at the same time this weekend, the Big Ten Men's and Women's Gymnastics Championships often seemed like just that -- a circus.

The indoor season was rough for the women's track team because, in the end, nobody qualified for the NCAAs. Three Lady Lions had provisionally qualified, but none made the final cut.
