Supporting TEACH!
I have watched Project TEACH! evolve into a battle of morals in an arena where ethics are not the issue. The lesbian, gay and bisexual community is not intending to preach its views at the expense of a nonsupporting student's tuition dollar; if that were the case, such protests would be appropriate. But this is not the case. Project TEACH! only provides students with additional educational opportunities for which I assume we are all here. A university committed to diversity inherently assumes the responsibility to provide the opportunities for education on any matter. Penn State has made this commitment to diversity and Project TEACH! is contingent to this promise. Being a college student and striving for higher education, while refusing further educational programs is a complete double standard. The implementation of this program should not be affected by the general acceptance of lack of acceptance of the homosexual and bisexual lifestyle. It is an issue that forces the administration to follow through with its promise to provide its students with the opportunity for a complete and diverse education, something every student should demand. Let's stop denying ourselves the opportunities for knowledge and start supporting our fellow students in making the administration do it job -- teach.
