I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Lady Lion basketball team on their outstanding performance in their victory over Kansas and wish them continued success.

Unfortunately the victory Saturday did not come before a sold-out crowd; in fact according to the newspaper Sunday, attendance was just short of 6,000 fans. I ask you, is this any way to show support for the No. 2 team in the nation during a second round game of the NCAA Tournament? Rec Hall should have been standing room only.

It seems year in and year out, the Lady Lions produce some of the nation's top-ranked teams in every sport without getting the recognition they deserve. Just look at last semester. The Lady Lion field hockey team held the No. 1 ranking through the entire season and still could not get a large turnout for its home playoff game; then there was the Lady Lion volleyball team who won their second straight Big Ten championship and went on to finish second in the NCAA tournament. There were plenty of empty seats at Rec Hall for their second round playoff game.

This past week, when the Lady Lion basketball team won its first Big Ten title, the men's game that evening had more than 2,000 people in the stands. And isn't it strange that the Lady Lions, who held the No. 1 ranking during the middle of the season, were lucky to receive any television air time while the unranked mens team had almost all their games televised.

Don't you think its time these great athletes received the support and recognition they have deserved for so long? I would like to encourage everyone to come and support all of our great Lady Lion teams; and don't be surprised if, once you start going you can't stop.
