  • Man arrested for trying to hit officer: A University student and candidate for Undergraduate Student Government Town Senator was arrested yesterday for allegedly attempting to strike a police officer, the State College Police Department said.

    James S. Burrell II of 224 S. Burrowes St. was involved in an argument with a waiter at the Gingerbread Man, 130 Hiester St., early yesterday morning. According to court records, yesterday was his 21st birthday.

    A doorman tried to remove Burrell after he refused to leave the restaurant. Burrell became enraged and began kicking and screaming, police said.

    After an officer attempted to calm him, Burrell tried unsuccessfully to strike the officer with his fist, police said.

    Burrell was arraigned before District Justice Clifford Yorks and released to one of his roommates, police said. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

  • Men rob Uni-Mart, clerk's car stolen: Philipsburg State Police reported the Cold Stream Uni-Mart in Rush Township was robbed early yesterday morning.

    Two men allegedly entered the store and forced a clerk to open a safe at gunpoint. One of the men then made the clerk lie down on the floor, police said, adding that the two men then took the keys to the clerk's car.

    Police said the men escaped in the clerk's vehicle, which was found in Chester Hill, Clearfield County. The men fled with an undetermined amount of money.

    Police said the investigation is continuing.

  • Man arrested, charged with assault: University Police Services has made an additional arrest in connection with the assault of a police cadet that occurred on Feb. 13.

    Marc W. Sheridan, 21, of 615 Mifflin, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, police said.

    Sheridan was arraigned before District Justice Clifford Yorks and released on $5,000 bail, police said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30 at 10 a.m.

    Justin Paul Naddeo of Hamilton, who was previously arrested on the same charges, has waived his preliminary hearing.

  • Harassment: A female University student reported she was harassed by an unknown man in the stacks of Pattee Library about 8:30 p.m. on March 18, University Police Services said.

  • Harassment: A female University student reported she was harassed by an unknown man in Willard Building about 9:30 p.m. on March 18, University police said.

State College police are located at 243 S. Allen St. in the Municipal Building.

University police are located in the Eisenhower Parking Garage on campus.
