He stands before them, with only a 3-foot-high wall protecting him from the panic-stricken ravings of the students who rush up to his window every few seconds. Behind him loom ceiling-high metal shelves holding the keys to these students' problems.

Although three of the four tickets running for Undergraduate Student Government president and vice president have candidates involved in fraternities and sororities, the candidates agree that Greek affiliation will not clinch the vote on election day.

Not every summer job in State College is the typical summer job -- it might not end when fall arrives.

The State College Police Department is investigating an apparent suicide that occurred yesterday morning in The Nittany Quill, 111 S. Fraser St.

Local public television might suffer some lean times, but "Mystery" isn't in danger of being canned . . . yet.

The choice was obvious last night as the Collegian Inc. Board of Directors selected Danielle Gray as The Daily Collegian's new business manager.

As other Big Ten schools incorporate programs and build facilities for student parents seeking child care, some Penn State student groups are approaching administrators asking for such programs at the University.

Safety, always a prime issue in Undergraduate Student Government elections, is again a topic of discussion, but the focus seems to have shifted from campus to downtown safety.

Tuesday, the men's tennis team's match against Robert Morris was a walk in the park. Yesterday, as Greg Gaunt will attest, the match was a bit tougher. But, the Lions were able to step up and make the improvements necessary to do well this weekend.

Blaine Wilson doesn't have to be cocky. As one of the nation's top gymnasts, he has every right to be. A member of the national team, and ranked No. 1 nationally in the all-around -- he's earned the right.

Who is currently the most dominant Big Ten athlete? Not Purdue basketball's Glenn Robinson, it is Michigan gymnast Beth Wymer. No Big Ten athlete dominates their sport the way she does. Listen to the critics:

When Illinois Women's Gymnastics Coach Lynn Crane steps on to the Rec Hall floor Saturday night for the Big Ten Championships, she knows she will experience different emotions than her coaching counterparts. Because Saturday night, Crane returns to the place where she carved out a gymnastics legacy just a few short years ago.

Call it a jinx or a hoax. Call it something, anything -- Penn State's fencing team would just like to find a reason why it was denied the 1994 fencing national championship at Brandeis University.

Diver Chris Devine has simply had an amazing season.

First he beat the 1993 Big Ten Champion Yoshi Sakata from Ohio State on the 1-meter board in a dual meet this past January. It proved to be the beginning of something wonderful.

The Black Coaches Association and the NCAA have agreed to address a number of issues which led to the BCA's threatened boycott of college basketball earlier this year, the U. S. Department of Justice said yesterday.

Rene Portland has never been so glad to leave Rec Hall.

The coach of the women's basektball team loves playing in the old gym, and she was as happy as anyone to host first- and second-round NCAA Tournament games there. But Penn State's dreams of a Final Four go through Austin, Texas, home of the Midwest Regional Championships, so it's time to go.

Kansas forward Angela Aycock was on a scoring rampage, pouring in 20 points in the first 25 minutes of the Jayhawks' NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament first-round confrontation with the Lady Lions at Rec Hall on Saturday.
