Stop the project
Right now, "Dzil Nchaa si an" is facing the threat of executuion. This execution is not as simple as lethal injection or the electric chair, but will certainly be as effective. "Dzil Nchaa si an" is the Apache name for Mount Graham, which rises 10,700 feet out of the Sonoran deserts of southeastern Arizona. Within this ecosystem is harbored more than a dozen species found nowhere else and is also the most sacred of the San Carlos Apache's holy lands. If the red squirrel and the faith of the San Carlos Apache are being blindfolded for execution, who holds the would-be murder weapon? The University of Arizona, the Max Planck Institute of Germany and the Vatican are sponsors of a telescope project that would devastate the mountain's ecosystem. What's worse, the University of Pittsburgh is planning to invest $15 million in this project, despite potential enviromental devastation and scientific studies questioning Mount Graham's suitability. Other investors have pulled out, with the glaring exception of Pitt. Tell the administrators of Pitt and the rest of the world that you, as a Penn State community member, want the Mount Graham telescope project stopped immediately, and you won't stand for Pitt's involvement.
