Letter to the Editor
Forcing beliefs
This letter is in response to Monday's letter titled "Living Proof," written by Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Alliance Political Co-director Mark Shiner. This is the United States. It's based on freedom. It's not based on someone pushing their ideas on someone else just because they think they are right. I live 40 minutes south of State College in the middle of a very "diverse" area. People who are Amish, Jehovah's Witnesses, Methodists and at least a dozen other religions live around me. We all get along fine. None of the religions whine to the local government for the forwarding of their beliefs. I am not ignorant to your beliefs. I just choose to ignore them. I am attending Penn State to learn about electrical engineering -- not gays and lesbians. I couldn't care less about them. If I choose to learn about them, I will attend a couple of LGBSA meetings. I do not wish to have beliefs that I do not agree with shoved down my throat. When I finally decide to marry my girlfriend and raise a family, I will teach my children that being gay is not normal -- that is my belief.
