After reading and hearing about the antics Mike King and his fellow cohorts performed at the Undergraduate Student Government debate, it comes to me as no surprise that the political goal forming King's presidential platform is racially and ethnically biased. His one platform goal is to improve the quality of undergraduate education by weeding out certain non-English speaking teaching assistants.
It is a norm in dirty politics to address issues that are directed against a minority to gain votes of the resident majority. Admittedly, some teaching assistants are difficult to comprehend and could use assistance with teaching skills; but it is ridiculous to assume that this applies only to international teaching assistants.
You could have a native English speaking professor, let alone a teaching assistant, who can not teach. It would be interesting to know if King would also like to emphasize his goals in Texas and Louisiana where English is spoken differently than he is used to.
Although King has a point in improving the quality of undergraduate instruction, it is unfairly directed toward international faculty and teaching assistants. He might want to reconsider his platform.
