Police closer to catching carjacker

The Ferguson Township Police Department may be another step closer to apprehending the man it believes carjacked a University student's vehicle earlier this month.

Police said a man approached the student March 11 at the intersection of West College Avenue and South Atherton Street and asked for a ride.

But when the driver stopped the car in the 1700 block of West College Avenue, the hitchhiker indicated that he had a gun and ordered the student to exit the vehicle, police said. The hitchhiker then drove the car away from the scene.

Police had a suspect early last week, but now believe the hitchhiker is someone else. After interviews with local residents, Investigator David Mulfinger learned that the hitchhiker may have been from or spent time in Lock Haven.

The Lock Haven City Police Department and Ferguson police located the missing car last week in a Lock Haven bar's parking lot after a tip from a Lock Haven resident, Mulfinger said.

Mulfinger said he is now confident police will apprehend the suspect, but added that he does not know where the man is at this time.
