Police Log

  • Employee arrested for work-related crimes: A Bellefonte man was arrested on charges of two counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and two counts of receiving stolen property, the State College Police Department said.

The owners of Uncle Eli's, 129 E. Beaver Ave., and The Fright Gallery, 258 E. Beaver Ave., reported they suspected Daniel J. Pry, one of their employees, stole over $9,400 and merchandise from the stores. Police said those beliefs were confirmed after the missing property was found in Pry's apartment and after examining the stores' deposit slips.

When a State College police investigator questioned Pry, he admitted to stealing money from both businesses by altering the daily deposit slips, police said. More than $4,100 in cash and the merchandise found in his apartment were returned, police said.

Pry was arrested and arraigned before District Justice Ronald Horner. He was released on supervised bail and faces a preliminary hearing tomorrow.

  • Student threatened by women with toy gun: A University student was approached and threatened by five women early Sunday morning on the south side of McAllister Building, University Police Services said. One of the women appeared to be holding a toy gun, police said.

The women demanded that the student give them all of his money. He threw $3 over his shoulder and then left the scene, police said, adding that the women took the money and also left the scene.

Police said an investigation is continuing.

  • Drug Law Violation: While serving an arrest warrant to Chad Murzwczyk of 122 N. Gill St. for aggravated assault yesterday morning, police found a small wooden box commonly used to store marijuana, State College police said.

Police said an officer picked up the box and noticed a marijuana odor. When the officer opened the box, a pipe with a trace of marijuana and a small amount of marijuana was found, police said.

Murzwczyk was arrested for possession of marijuana along with the aggravated assault charge. Murzwczyk was arraigned before District Justice Clifford Yorks and is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
