Upbeat lady laxers look to JMU; try to rebound from tough loss

Collegian Sports Writer

Some might think that losing by a single goal in overtime would be discouraging for a team. But if you ask Women's Lacrosse Coach Julie Williams, you can always find something positive in a loss.

Not that she likes losing. On the contrary, the coach said she would rather not have to search for positives in losses. But the fact that her young team hung tough, and came back to within one against Loyola on Wednesday night told her a lot about the kind of team she has.

Now comes the task of rebounding from the loss, as Williams and her Lady Lions (1-1) head to Virginia to take on James Madison at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

"We just couldn't finish it," Williams said of the Loyola loss, adding that she expects her team to come out strong against the Duchesses. "I think they're ready to play a full game."

After the Loyola loss, freshman Michelle Dejuliis said the team has to get off to a better start.

"We just have to get out there and do it," she said. "We need to be moving it more on offense and seeing the open player."

They'll have their chance tomorrow.

The game will be a rematch of last year's game in Holuba Hall --a game that Williams described as really tight, "back and forth, neck and neck," in which the Lady Lions eventually prevailed 8-5.

The Lady Lions will have their work cut out for them this weekend, as Williams has a good idea of what to expect.

"They always have a pretty good goalkeeper," she said of James Madison's Michele Julian. "You've got to fake it first and then put it by her."

Penn State netminder Patty Kloidt also expects the team to bounce back fairly well. She added that the team needs to work specifically on its transition game, and taking care of the ball.

"They gave us a tough game last year," Kloidt said. "Everybody always plays us tough."
